I am a mixed media and fiber artist inspired by the notion of bricolage – improvising and using whatever is at hand. I rely on my interior life and imagination, a well-stocked studio, and the courage to venture beyond. My work involves many materials – fabric, papers, wool roving, and other fibers. My tools include the usual paintbrushes, pens, pencils, scissors, blades, needles, and more specialized equipment such as hand carders for color blending wool. Watercolors, chalks, inks, acrylic paints, dyes, stains, silk embroidery threads, and wool yarns all bring color and line to the artwork. In any medium – story quilt, wet-felted hand-embroidered composition, or mixed media collage – I seek to create colorful and textural paintings inspired by the beauty and wonder of the natural world.
